Food reviewing… Let’s talk about noodles

2

I guess it’s a bit hard to find people who don’t like noodles, but of course, everybody had  their own favorite noodles.

For me and my family, we have quite a lot options for enjoying noodles, but here are some favourite noodles that we loved the most.

Bakmi Ayam Karet (Chewy noodle with boiled chicken)

Located in Jalan Samanhudi, Jakarta

‘Karet’ in English is meant as Rubber, so the fans of this noodle aren’t those who like the soft noodle. Most elderly do not like this chewy noodle. We may request for the softer noodle, though. The longer it is being boiled, the softer it was.         5

We could request the chicken topping, either breast meat or thigh meat pieces, or without specifying, they will then give a mixture breast and thigh meat pieces. Or we could order the chicken meat in separate bowl, as an additional portion or as a side dish when ordering plain noodles. I like to order plain noodles and the side dishes separately. They have some choices of side dish; chicken meat in soup, chicken innard in soup, chicken blood in soup, meatball in soup, wonton soup, fried dumpling, fried meatball –this one is toothsome and fastly sold out-, and one side dish we’ve never missed is cakwe, a kind of fried cake, we dip it in soup for a while before eating it. It gives an extra unique taste to the noodle. More leek in the soup was also giving an additional good taste, for me, as some people do not like leek flavor.

Cost range: Rp35.000,- – Rp65.000,- /person

Bakmi Permata (Noodle and Chinese Food)

There are some outlets in Jakarta (Green Garden, Kebon Jeruk, Permata Hijau, Blok M, Pamulang, Pasar Baru, Wisma BNI46 Sudirman)

Edited

The noodle is curly, thin, and having smooth texture, but not too soft. I don’t like the plump and mushy noodle. For boiled noodle, we can choose the favored topping, chicken meat pieces or mushroom cuts (both was cooked in soy sauce). As I am not a big fan of meat, I mostly order the noodle with mushroom. They have a delicious crunchy fried wonton, we’ve never missed this delicacy.  Besides boiled noodle, this resto offers some other delicious choices in their menu list, such as Ifumi (fried dry noodle served with mixture of vegetables, chicken cuts and seafood in sago sauce), Nasi Tahu Jepang (steam rice served with egg tofu and chicken cuts cooked in sago sauce), Capcai (various vegetables, chicken cuts and seafood cooked in sago sauce) and some other great choices.

Ifumi  IMG-20140427-01011  Pangsit

One fun thing from this resto, which I believe could becoming their plus point, is the free dessert as a compliment which they serve to every guess when we almost done with our meal. It’s just a small bonus to be enjoyed, but we love getting it.

Bakmi Aheng (similar to Bakmie Ayam Karet, Jalan Samanhudi)

Located in Jalan Mandala Utara, Tomang, Jakarta

The look and taste is pretty close to Bakmi Ayam Karet, but Bakmi Aheng has bigger cuts of chicken and the thing we prefer is the slices of mustard green (sayuran sawi hijau/caisim) as the topping, side by side with chicken cuts.

Price: Rp30.000,- /portion; Cost range: Rp30.000,- – Rp50.000,- /person

Mie Aheng 1

Bakmi Amen

Located in Jalan Mandala Utara, Tomang, Jakarta

This one is Mie Bangka, with two kinds of noodle, original noodle and wide noodle. As usual, Mie Bangka is served with bean sprouts, mustard green, and chicken small cutlets cooked with soy sauce as the toppings. As an option, pork small cutlets is also offered for topping.

Price: Rp17.000,- /portion; Cost range: Rp20.000,- – Rp35.000,- /person

Bakmi Gajah Mada (Bakmi GM)

As declared by its name, the first location of this resto is in Jalan Gajah Mada, Jakarta. Currently there are quite a lot of its outlet in Jakarta as well as some other cities.

For the lovers of old style noodle, Bakmi GM is one option. Fried dumpling from this resto has also been the most popular choice.

Cost range: Rp30.000,- – Rp60.000,- /person

Food reviewing…I’d love doing it, as I love enjoying food :)

IMG_20150926_143955_HDR  IMG_20150927_115655_HDR_1443333324517 (1)

Another friend of mine has just launched his foodstall in Puri Mansion Foodcourt. There are Ayam Goreng (Indonesian style seasoned fried chicken) and Lontong Capgomeh (pieces of rice cake with thin sliced chayote and some other perks in savory coconut milk gravy) in his menu option.

IMG_20150927_114344_HDR

Ayam goreng is served with steam rice, fried tofu or tempe (fermented soybean), fresh raw vegetables (cucumber, tomato, lettuce), and sambal terasi (chili paste). Sayur asem (specific vegetables and beans cooked in spicy sour soup) is an optional for a perfect deliciousness… yummy, it is!

IMG_20150926_143955_HDR

My review: The fried chicken is toothsome, I love the salty savory food, and this chicken comes with appropriate savory seasonings and good crispness. The chili paste is great for me, not too hot, so I need no worry of being pungency, but for others who like the very hot sambal, it might be less spicy. The spicy sour soup is tasty, the veggies in it are still fresh enough, not mushy. But well, the important thing for me is, the good rice. Good rice will make any good side dish tastes better. And I am happy as I got what I like here.

Lontong Capgomeh is one of Peranakans’ Specialties. It comes as a dish-meal (food served in a dish to be eaten at one time). Included in each portion is some pieces of rice cake; thin sliced chayote, a fried boiled egg, a piece of fried tofu, all of these three ingredients are cooked in savory coconut milk gravy; shredded chicken breast which is also cooked in coconut milk gravy (opor ayam suwir); spicy chicken liver fritters (sambal goreng ati ayam); and crackers as a delicacy adder.

IMG_20150927_115655_HDR_1443333324517 (1)

My review: Overall, the taste is delicious, the look is tasteful and tempting. I love the good looking food. The sliced chayote in coconut milk gravy is in good cut, not mushy. However, as the coconut milk gravy is somewhat too little, my girl was feeling need to ask for more and she got it. I told my friend about this too-little-gravy as a note for becoming better.

Food Reviewing…Enjoying cuisine, enjoying friendship

Nasi Langgi

Yesterday we have had a good lunch, some Indonesian foods had become our preference.

Friends of mine, a couple of husband-Hans and wife-Lina, are the owner of Javanese and Balinese cuisine specialties. There are plenty of Indonesian cuisine restaurants around the area of our living quarters who offers delicious menus, and this friends’ resto is one of them.

Located in neighborhood housing complex, Gading Serpong, they open for dining-in, taking-away and the most I guess, accepting delivery-orders. They deliver meal boxes and Nasi Tumpeng Lengkap (completed cone rice) for ceremonial events, family, community and corporate gatherings, and any other kinds of event. I have few times ordered their Nasi Tumpeng Lengkap and meal boxes. The nasi tumpeng is amply with various appendage side dishes, and they are all so tasty.

For me and my family, the taste of each menu is toothsome, the look is tempting, that’s the reasons of why we are visiting this resto quite often, besides as the location is not too far to our home.

Talk a little about the background of how I know this couple; Lina has been my long time friend since we were in kindergarten, while Hans, being friends since we were in high school. I know them as an ordinary couple, educated and religious in a humble manner. The fun side is, Lina is an active and talkative woman, while Hans is a quiet but ready-to-assist person. We have once never met each other for a long period, but then by chance we have chosen the same residential area, so the precious friendship is pleasantly reconnected. We had a lot to talks every time we meet –of which not too often-, but just the fun and good things, about our family and friends. I think Lina and I have one similarity in viewing the life, that is enjoying whatever we have with gratitude, in the way we are.

Here are some appetizing choices available in their resto:

Nasi Pecel Komplit

Includes: rice, boiled vegetables, spicy peanut sauce, peanut cracker, shredded sweet spiced fried beef, sliced cucumber, kemangi leaves, chili paste

Nasi Pecel Komplit

Nasi Gudeg Telur

Includes: rice, sayur nangka gudeg, spiced boiled egg (telur bacem), fried tofu cooked in coconut sauce (opor tahu), calfskin cracker in spicy coconut sauce (kerecek), sliced cucumber, chili paste

Nasi Gudeg Telur

Nasi Langgi

Includes: rice, savory beef, chili fried beef liver, sweet sauted tempe, thinly sliced omelette, sweet potato chips, grated coconut, sliced cucumber, kemangi leaves, chili paste

Nasi Langgi

Nasi Kuning

Includes: yellow rice (yellow color is derived from turmeric), Javanese style fried chicken, red chili potato cubes , thinly sliced omelette, sliced cucumber, kemangi leaves, chili paste

Nasi Kuning

I Love Birthdays… hari-hari ulang tahun itu menyenangkan… :D

dd4e19de52664ae245f88bd5c688d826

Batu Ceper no. 7, dari Jl.

Harga Rp8.500,- perporsi.

IMG_20150801_103335_HDRIMG_20150801_104321_HDR

Harga Rp19.000,- percangkir

Teh Panas Celup-celup: Air putih panas dengan 1 kantong teh beraroma melati. Boleh minta air putih panasnya berkali-kali. Harga Rp13.000,- percangkir.

IMG_20150801_103436_HDR_1438434795062  IMG_20150801_103140_HDR

Menu andalan lainnya yang layak dicoba:

* Homemade Tahu Lada Garam Rp27.000,- perporsi

* Engkong Tan’s Favorite Rice: nasi dengan topping irisan daging sapi dan sayuran,  Rp45.000,- perporsi

* Entjiem Hainam Chicken Rice Rp35.000,- perporsi

* Nasi Lemak Bakar Rp35.000,- perporsi

* Laksa Nyonya Besar Rp37.000,- perporsi
